Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a teacher in a self-contained Autistic Support classroom serving students in 3rd-5th grade. My students are all on the Autism Spectrum, and many have other disabilities and/or special needs as well. These are an incredible group of kids who bring joy to my heart each and every day. We work on academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills...and have a lot of fun doing it.
However as with any child, my students have big emotions and need to learn appropriate ways to handle them.
For students on the Autism spectrum this can be a more difficult task. I want to create a private space in my classroom where students can go for a quick break or go when they need to work on handling feelings of stress, frustration, anger, or sadness.
The room dividers will create a sense of privacy for my students while the large cushion will provide comfort. The fidgets can serve as a distraction and appropriate way to regulate their emotions. I would love the opportunity to create this safe space for my amazing students.
