Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a school counselor at a Title 1 school where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our students live in a low-income community and are faced with many challenges.
Despite all the challenges our students face they have an intrinsic desire to learn and grow.
Our students enjoy coming to school because they feel safe and loved. Our goal is to ensure that all students have equal access to mental health services as well as a safe place to go to when they are having a challenging day.
My Project
All of our students want to learn, but sometimes their life outside of school gets in the way of that. Students often times come to school feeling sad, anxious, angry, and frustrated. Learning cannot happen when students are overwhelmed by these strong emotions. Teachers and school personnel are equipped to help students in these situations, but sometimes all students need is a safe space to go where they can unwind.
The furniture, fidget toys, and office decor will help create a calming environment for students in need.
By donating to my project, you will not only help students de-escalate strong emotions, but you will also be aiding them to focus on becoming better learners.
