Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students will be physically at school for the first time this September. Many students' families have been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are still recovering--as we all are--from the emotional, physical, and economic effects of this devastating illness.
To support my students smooth transition to in-person schooling, help me create a welcoming environment in my classroom that both calms the senses and supports safe classroom management.
My Project
The calming colors of this rug will add to the calming, safe learning environment that I want to create in my classroom. It's colorful rows will provide a visual support for students during transitions from one activity to another. Precious learning time can be lost when students don't know the routine or procedure for how to get to the next activity, making for a hectic and confusing experience.
This rug will make classroom management a lot smoother because I can call students by row color or I can non-verbally show a color card to indicate who's next.
And, because we're still in a pandemic, the rug will support all of us in maintaining a safe distance from one another during circle time activities.
