Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This is my very first classroom, and I want to give my students everything they deserve.

My students are first graders in a rural, traditional public school in Louisiana.

I haven't met them yet, but I am so excited to start working with them. The school district my students are at is a high poverty area, and many of my students are below grade level.

My Project

I want to instill a love of reading and learning in my students, and having a colorful and safe space for my students to read with me will help me make that happen. Getting a rug for my classroom would really help bring my vision to life. It would give my students a space where learning and reading is fun and enjoyable. This rug would also serve as a space for morning meetings with my class.

Without this rug I will have nowhere for my students to comfortably sit on the floor.

It is important for students to feel safe in class and enjoy learning, and that is exactly what this rug will help me do.
