My Project

Kindergarten students are naturally curious. They are curious about the world around them both inside and outside. These 5-6 year olds get excited when a bird flies by the window. They are very interested in what the weather is doing outside. They love to sit by the window and watch butterflies or cows and tractors in the field. I absolutely love this about about the children I teach.

In 2023-24, my district added a new Kindergarten wing with 4 new classrooms.

Two of the classrooms have big windows, two have NO windows. I will be moving into a room with NO windows. I have been teaching for over 30 years and have always had windows in my classrooms. Windows are important to our kindergarten science curriculum and to our mental health. Seeing the outside helps us know how to dress for recess, how to chart the weather during our morning meeting, and what changes take place outside when the seasons change. I could not imagine Kindergarten without access to a view of the outdoors. My co-teacher (who will inhabit the other windowless room) and I began to brainstorm how we could view the outside from our windowless rooms. We reached out to our superintendent, principal, and technology director for help. After many ideas came and went, the decision was to create a digital window using the following supplies:
