Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning to read is challenging and exciting when you learn how to sound out those difficult words or use illustrations to guide your reading. These are strategies my students are eager to learn and practice at a space where we can work together.

My students are vibrant children who live and go to school in the nation's capital!

We live in Washington, D.C. and are proud Washingtonians. The students at our school are 50% Hispanic and 50% African American, creating a diverse setting for learning. Our school is a public school in the heart of the city surrounded by a loving community!

My Project

Our school is diving into guided reading and working with teachers to spend individualized time with students working at learning to read on their specific reading level. A "kidney bean" table is a space that is optimal for working with small groups and allows the teacher to sit on one side, while a group of students sit on the other. In this spacer teacher can listen in as student read and provide strategies to help them develop their reading.

This project means so much to my second graders as we spend the year working together to improve our reading and develop our love for books!

Donations for this project will give my class an opportunity to focus together and spend time reading books with one another.
