Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a passionate National Board Certified Education Specialist working in a high school setting. Our school is a Title I school that serves a diverse student population.

My Community-Based Instruction (CBI) class has participated in a variety of enriching activities, including working on the yearbook staff, attending school events, volunteering in the community, and serving on the Associated Student Body (ASB).

These students thrive through movement and hands-on experiences. I feel truly blessed to be their teacher and aim to inspire them to exceed even their own highest expectations.

As I prepare for the new semester, I would love for my students to have the opportunity to meet Samuel Habib via Zoom. We will first watch A Road Ahead, which will be featured on PBS.

The film follows Samuel Habib, a 21-year-old with familiar dreams—moving out of his family's home in New Hampshire, going to college, building a career, and dating. A pivotal moment occurs when Samuel begins speaking with disabled adults who have faced similar challenges. Through their stories and insights, he starts to shape a roadmap for his own future and for other young adults like him.

After we finish watching the documentary, students and their families will be invited to join a meaningful, real-world conversation about life after high school with Samuel and his father. This will allow students the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of another person. As students engage with the visitors, they will ask meaningful, relevent questions, that will help them learn to work toward alleviating suffering of others. I will measure the students success by their compassionate move to make friends in their inclusion classes with students that have different abilities.

Thank you for helping make this dream a reality for my students. I am truly grateful.
