Help me give my students a "mind retreat" through a variety of high interest novels they can use as independent reading when they need a break or have downtime.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The high interest novels being requested offer a selection of engaging, diverse, and relatable literature that allows students to escape into different worlds, explore new ideas, and gain fresh perspectives. Whether it's through thrilling adventures, heartwarming stories, or thought-provoking narratives, these books will help students decompress, find comfort, and rediscover the joy of reading. My goal for this project is to create a safe space through a classroom library where students can unwind with a good book, helping them to reduce stress and improve their mental well-being.
Fostering a lifelong love of reading that will help students learn helathy and productive coping methods.
Our school is a dynamic learning environment, but many students struggle with stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. While we have counselors and other resources available, there's a growing need for non-intrusive, everyday mental health supports. Providing students with high-interest books gives them an opportunity to take a mental break, reduce stress, and engage in self-care through reading.
Our school is moving toward being a "no phone zone" and giving students access to non-digital and non-screen entertainment will help promote a focus on the emotional and mental well-being we are trying to instill.
