Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been an early childhood teacher in a city school in Illinois for over twenty years. My students live in low-income households from a beautifully diverse area of Chicago. Hispanic, African-American, and Arab families send their children to our school.

My classroom is an entry point for a child's school experience.

I want to embrace their curiosity and provide an environment that is stimulating but fun!

My Project

My students leave the safety of their homes to enter the group setting for the first time. Hopefully, they have been given the love and security to walk into my room ready to build new relationships.

It is my hope to create an environment that is welcoming and representative of their identities.

I would my classroom to have materials that include skin colors that match my students' skin tones. I would like to add markers and crayons of varying tones to the art area. I also would like to include multicultural dolls, books and toys in the dramatic play, library, and fine motor centers.
