My Students

I teach 18-21 year-old young adults with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in our high school's Transition Program. This program serves students not only from our district but also from surrounding towns that may not be equipped to provide the desired services.

The students have a wide variety of skills, but they are all working towards the single goal of being as independent as possible.

My students have completed all requirements to graduate but have chosen to continue their education through the Transition Program.

My Project

Through the areas of vocation, daily living, and recreation, my students are focusing their time on preparing for life after high school.

Food is a basic need for all of us and being able to prepare it gives us a sense of independence and accomplishment as well as an opportunity to help others.

In the Transition Program, students are planning, shopping, and preparing meals for themselves. They also prepare meals weekly and give them to school counselors who then send them with students who may otherwise not have access to nutritious meals. This allows the students to not only practice their cooking skills but it also provides the opportunity to give back to the community that has been so supportive of them.
