Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school, educating its third generation of students, serving a diverse population. Our students are from low-income areas and unfortunately, high poverty means low funding for our schools. Each one of our students is unique, but the main characteristics that would best describe them would be: helpful, creative, inquisitive, and energetic.

Being in Oregon, we tend to have rain and cold days often.

This means we have many students doing indoor recess and all they want to do is read. During days like these, our students need a quiet place to sit down and read during their recess time.

My Project

The bookshelf will provide a space for our books and the seats will allow portable seating for our students to chose a spot of their liking to sit and read. The chairs will allow for students to focus and have a place they may need to work.

We would like to be able to provide a nice and safe space or "reading nook" where our students can get comfortable and read.

With the Oregon weather, often, our students would rather stay in and read during recess rather than go outside and play.

We do not have a librarian, therefore, our library is not always available, hence why we would like to have a designated area for our students to hang out under proper supervision.
