My students need more reading materials and comfy seating to enhance their reading experience.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Reading is the ticket to success for the future of these inner city children.
My students are eager to learn, enchanted by books, and truly savor their quiet time each day to read and explore new worlds.
These first graders live in the midst of a city ridden with poverty and violence, and look forward to coming to school every day. My students have recently turned the corner of our school year and are now enjoying the benefits of all their hard work - they are reading and they are unstoppable!
My Project
The items I have selected were chosen with my student's interests and personalities in mind. Independent reading time is a coveted time of the day in my classroom. Children are excited at the opportunity to find a quiet, comfortable spot in the classroom to just be with their chosen books. Space is limited however, in our small classroom, and cozy seating is hard to come by. These materials will provide a pleasant and relaxed environment in our classroom, where children can escape into worlds unexplored in their books.
Reading is a fundamental and indispensable skill necessary in life.
These children have many hurdles and hardships against them, but if they can be great readers, they can be anything! Reading just may be the vehicle that carries them out of this difficult environment and into something great.
