A Reading Carpet for a Bunch of Bookworms, Please!
My students need a reading carpet so they can continue improving their literacy skills.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Hahn's classroom raised $482
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine learning how to read and write at the same time that you are acquiring a second language? How proud would you feel about reading for the first time a book in a second language? What about when you overcome your fears and start sharing your thoughts with your teacher and your friends?
All my students come from countries where English is not the native language.
They speak different languages at home, but they are eager to learn how to read, write, and speak in English. Some of my 2nd grade students are teaching their parents their first words in English. They are very determined learners who dream about going to college and making a difference in this world. They work hard, never give up, and try their best every day. Our community school is a happy place in a low income urban area.
My Project
Picture seven-year-old children lying down on the floor totally engaged in reading. My students spend at least 3 hours a day involved in reading activities. Most of these activities are done on students seats or on the floor because we do not have a reading carpet in our classroom. Having a carpet would allow my students to sit comfortably to listen to stories, read independently, share ideas about texts, and dream about new accomplishments.
All students should be provided with as many resources as needed to improve academic and social skills.
All my students are language learners who live in a poverty area in the city. They should experience a beautiful and wonderful world when they come to school. This way we will be providing all students equal opportunities to learn and thrive.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
