Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My campus is incredibly lucky to have a 3D printer in our STEM and Makerspace Lab. It allows students to problem-solve, design, test and rework their ideas in ways that are highly engaging and truly unique experiences. My class has designed and printed a doorstop for our classroom door. It is a big, heavy door, so they were required to design something that would not slip or slide due to the weight of the door. It took several attempts, but they were successful in the end. However, that process of trial and error uses a lot of filament for our 3D printer, which is why I am asking for more filament that we can use for future projects.

Seeing the look on kids' faces when their designs begin to print and literally come to life right in front of them is an amazing thing.

These are the projects that they will remember for years. Having and using a 3D printer is something relatively new to me and my campus. It is something that I would like to expand and have kids from all grade levels across campus get to use. Without the filament from this project, that cannot happen.

There are endless possibilities as to what students can 3D print. From topographic maps and fraction pieces, 3D printable options are endless all thanks to this project!
