This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Some 5th graders at our K-8 Center just read 'Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry', by Mildred Taylor, as a class. They asked me, their Media Specialist, to buy the sequel. I told them about Donors Choose. 3 of the kids came up with this project proposal:
This school gets most of their things off of Donors Choose.
Mostly kids from other countries come to this school because their parents are looking for jobs. About 80% of kids in this school cannot buy their own lunch because they don't have enough money. Kids have been asking for the book 'Let the Circle Be Unbroken' because they read the prequel and are dying to read the book after that. We want to get them this book to encourage them to read and learn about civil rights, diversity, and multicultualism. Teachers from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will check out this class set and absolutely love it. About 400 kids will check out this book. We think the kids that love to read and don't read as much will enjoy this book very much.
My Project
We want 50 copies of 'Let The Circle Be Unbroken'. I have read the prequel 'Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry' and it was so good, I wanted to find the next book in the series. 'Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry' was a very inspiring book that taught me about civil rights. This new book will tell us more about the Loqan family that have suffered many because of their color.
We kids need lots of copies of 'Let the Circle Be Unbroken'.
We love books. We are going thru books so fast. So we are asking for 50 class copies of 'Let the Circle Be Unbroken'. These books will help the 5th -8th grade learn about African-American history and civil rights.
