This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
With the incorporation of technology in the classroom, I strive to provide my students with the opportunity to take ownership of their learning and enjoy themselves throughout the process.
Ours is a small school that has a less than 300 students, Pre-K to 5th grade.
The majority of our students come from low income families and they participate in our free lunch program. Many students do not have all of the resources they need at home to find academic success. Although our budget may limit us, at our school we try to provide our students with everything that they need to be successful. My class is made up of 24 amazing individuals who come to school every day very eager to learn. Although my students are between the ages of 6 and 7, they are very bright and are very capable of doing more than one could imagine. That is why I call them my "Fantastic First Graders."
My Project
My responsibility as a teacher is to make the curriculum accessible and engaging to all of my students. One way of doing this is by using technology in the classroom. Within the last few months our school received iPads for every student. The one thing missing in our class is a projector. Many students are learning how to use an iPad and it has been very challenging teaching whole group lessons and showing students how to use certain apps when I cannot project the activity. Students also have a hard time sharing the work they create on their iPads with the whole group without a projector.
More than anything I know my English language learners and my visual learners will benefit from having a projector in the room. I often use videos and images such as PowerPoint presentations throughout my lessons to help students get a better understanding of the content being covered. Having 24 students sitting in a small space trying to watch a video on an iPad is not a fun nor easy task.
Using a projector in the classroom will definitely promote student engagement by bringing lessons to life.
Students will be able to showcase their learning and continue to be creative with technology. My students will be able to learn many 21st century skills that will bring them success throughout their lives.
