Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from from Central and South America. Some of them arrive with little to no English and in some cases limited previous education. Imagine a middle school student who is secure in their home countries one day and the next they are told to survive in a new country where they don't understand anything outside of their own home. Many if not all of them get free breakfast and lunch in school.
Despite these hardships, they WANT to learn English.
They arrive in my class with a smile and energy that is contagious. They also show up and find a teacher who is as excited to teach them English and help become self sufficient as I am to learn from them. These are my students and I tell my friends and family, they are MY kids.
My Project
Our school does not provide printers in our classrooms nor is there a place in the school to print out materials. With this printer, I will be able to print materials such as worksheets, tests, quizzes, study sheets, and images to help them better grasp English.
By having access to a printer, I will be able to give them what they deserve.
My students deserve to have materials in their hands to help them gain increased writing and reading proficiency. Without these materials or access to these materials their language development will be impeded. If I am able to provide them the materials needed to actually practice the different skills needed to advance in English.
