My Students
Pre-K for All is a new program within the New York City Department of Education that provides all four year olds with full day quality education. Pre-K for All gives children stronger reading and math skills.
My site is a Pre-K Center exclusively dedicated to pre-k students.
We are located in Brooklyn and have a diverse population.
We have a center based learning model. The students learn by engaging in purposeful play while teachers engage the students in meaningful conversations.
In my program we like to provide lessons that are interactive so the children can learn by doing.
My Project
Children, especially young learners use picture clues to help them share ideas. Using pictures clues is also a useful reading strategy to help students recognize and sound out words. Pictures clues help children develop a broad vocabulary. Pictures also greatly support our English Language Learners.
Having a printer in the classroom would allow me to print picture clues.
When I ask the student to share their ideas and I record them and I may not be able to add pictures for several days without a classroom printer.Having a classroom printer would allow me to almost instantly add picture clues to their ideas.
The students use the picture as a reference when sharing ideas. Having an in classroom printer would also allow for adding pictures to vocabulary words. A lamination machine with lamination sheets would preserve the images that are printed for reuse.
A classroom printer also has other benefits. If a student created something on the computer in class, they can print it out and it could be displayed. Also I would be able to use it to print any other necessary classroom material. Having an additional ink cartridge will allow me to replace the ink quickly.
