Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

For more than a decade, I have had the privilege of working with extraordinary young people every day as a fifth grade teacher at a Title I school in Southwest Philadelphia. Each day, my scholars come to school brimming with questions, willing to work hard and eager to learn something new. I am proud of my students and what I have accomplished with them. As satisfying as my work has been, the extent of my influence is always limited by the size of my class. I usually only have between 20-25 students each year. In September however, I have the opportunity to increase my impact as I tackle a new challenge: being a reading teacher leader.

With a color printer, I can produce materials that will benefit both the students and teachers in my K-5 school.

Having access to a high-quality inkjet color printer will allow me to create dynamic examples of student work, even books for reading. It will also help me prepare the appropriate subject matter for teachers in order to improve instruction and, in turn, increase student achievement. Giving teachers access to a color printer will result in more engaging lessons for students. With the successful funding of this project, your donation will reach nearly 400 scholars and positively impact our school, known as "the Hidden Gem of the Southwest."
