Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A laptop for every two students is not bad, but if they don't have a printer...What do they do? They wait an entire week to be able to complete their work in the computer lab. My fourth graders definitely need a printer in the class.
My public school tries to offer the best to our kids who come from economically disadvantaged families.
About 60% of our students are African American alongside with Latin and Asian children. This situation offers unlimited opportunities to learn tolerance and team work while discovering new perspectives. However, our school and our families can't afford the resources we need to support academic knowledge and significantly improve student achievement.
My Project
With a printer/scanner in the classroom, students would be able to print any of their work immediately and complete any task more efficiently. My kids write poems and essays and conduct three long research projects during the year. They need to access information online and sometimes print a page or two to read later at home. One of their projects includes a report about a habitat and the creation of a 3D model representing that ecosystem. Every year, each team needs to beg the office downstairs to print one or two pages in color to represent animals or plants. With our new printer/scanner, we would be able to either scan what we find in books or magazines and print or just print from the web in color. Students wouldn't have to waste time coloring gray pictures to place in their model! Additionally, I could finally teach them how to scan... They would be able to print their paragraphs as soon as they finish editing and I could give them feedback more rapidly.
Your contribution would update the way my students work and provide them with the opportunity to compete with wealthier schools.
This would be a significant step in closing the achievement gap. Thank you in advance for making a genuine difference in the classroom!
