This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My goal is always to expose my students to as many hands on experiences as possible, and this fits the bill!

My preschool program has students whose families have low income and few of them have experiences with gardening.

However, in my experience 3- and 4- year olds are thrilled by the magic of growing plants from seed. My hope is to create a gardening program for our preschool program.

My Project

We would like to create vegetable gardens for the preschool programs to be planted in the fall and spring so that students can see how food grows from a seed to an edible product. We envision that we will be able to gardening with student 1-2 times per week. We will need 3 elevated, raised beds and 3 bags of organic soil.

I believe when students grow their own food they will be more willing to eat the foods and will have more appreciation for the food they eat.

It also will help to teach about science constructs such as how plants grow from a seed, what is needed to make a plant grow, and what is alive and what is not.
