I teach in an ICT class at a Title I, elementary school where the majority of my students are English Language Learners. Most of these students immigrated from China and come from a low-income household. At home, they have limited access to technology to help them translate, meet their needs or complete homework. It is very important to give my students the chance to have access to technology that will help them get ready for grades ahead.
They are creative, curious, compassionate, enthusiastic and unique learners who face many challenges every day.
Every day they come to class with new exciting stories and ideas. I want to give them the chance to overcome their challenges with new ways to learn. As their teacher, I want to make sure they learn in an enjoyable environment.
My Project
Using a color printer can give an opportunity to provide visual support to my students. It can enable me to differentiate lessons for students who have special needs and are learning English as a new language.
I can help them associate pictures with words, provide engaging resources that they can refer to, and so much more!
During many projects, my students ask me to print out pictures to help them complete the project. But unfortunately, I have to upset them because we do not have a colored printer in our room.
Also, I can use the color printer to create a welcoming classroom environment, helping students navigate around the room, by referring to labels printed with visual support. By creating a warm environment helps my students feel loved and always welcomed in class.
