Help me give my students the ability to use colored paper as a means to better remember and learn material. This will be a fantastic asset for visual learners!
"We are visual creatures. Visual things stay put, whereas sounds fade." - Steven Pinker
My students are insightful, intuitive, curious, and knowledge-seeking.
I teach at an economically diverse school where one hundred percent of our students receive free or reduced lunches. I've had students who have experienced so many unfortunate hardships in their young lives. Despite this, they come to class each day with a positive attitude that shows me they want to learn, do well, and succeed. In return, I want to do everything I can to help them be successful in and outside of my classroom. I want them to feel encouraged, and I want them to feel that they can achieve whatever dreams they have. By having the appropriate tools and resources, students will grow tremendously and take one step closer to becoming life-long learners!
My Project
Each year, I survey my students and find that the majority identify themselves as visual learners.
The human brain does very well remembering color, so why not use this to my students' advantage?!
By printing important handouts, rubrics, assessments, and assignments on colored paper, students will not only be less likely to lose or misplace their copies, but they will be able to better remember the information on them. Colored paper will provide me with the opportunity to color code different units, give students a visual means of study, and provide a way for both students and myself to better keep track of important papers and documents.
