Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students really love coming to school. Our school is a Title I school with 100% free breakfast and lunch which means that our students come from low income families. They deal with a lot of stress at home and that stress most often comes with them when they enter the school building.
In my classroom, I focus on capturing the hearts of students by building meaningful relationships with each child.
Having a positive impact on our students is very important to every person who works at our school. We know that the stress that the kids bring with them from home can greatly impact how they learn. Teachers and staff strive each and every day to make sure that we speak to students in the hallways, we shake their hands as they enter the classrooms, we sit and talk with students at lunch, and play with them at recess. We understand that our students come first. We understand that in order for us to be able to teach them, they have to feel safe and loved by the people around them. Each teacher at my school genuinely loves teaching!
My Project
I would love to incorporate these poetry books into my classroom library! My students are asking for different varieties of books in the library! I want to give them poetry books to help them see that not all books are set up in the same way. Poetry books will also help them with imagery, analogies, perspective, and point of view.
My students will be able to use several different reading strategies while reading these amazing poetry books!
I am hoping that these books will help build my students reading skills as well as grow their love of reading! These books will be a wonderful addition to our classroom library!
