This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a unique school because of the high population of students with special needs. In my classroom alone I have students with special needs or who are on the spectrum who spend the entire day in our classroom, as well as 2-4 students from a special education room who come in to our classroom throughout the day.
This year I have three students who are always on the move.
They cannot sit still. I know they can't help their constant movement, and I know they want to learn.
My Project
In my classroom I have a variety of students, learners, and friends. I have some children with special needs or who are on the spectrum who spend the entire day in my room, as well as 2-4 students from a special education room who come in to our classroom throughout the day. Unfortunately my rug is too small to to fit everyone, and they cram on to spots and tend to sit wherever they can find a seat. This creates a problem because I have three students who are very uncomfortable when other friends sit near them or in their spot. It is so important to me that every child feels safe and comfortable and in addition provide the children the best opportunity to learn.
I am trying to provide seating opportunities for my students who need constant movement.
I have the big balls, but they tend to bounce off of them. I have a rocking chair that helps with the constant rocking and movement, but I would like to provide them with other options. I feel that a large rug with a space for everyone so we are all included will help greatly with the attention of the kids. I am also wanting to try these three wobble seats. I have some kids who move and move and move. They have expressed to me that they just can't stop. I have read about these chairs and read the reviews, and I am hopeful that they will provide a safe place where the kids can move yet are still an active and productive part of our day.
Every new year brings with it unique challenges, and my hope is that all students will be able to learn in an environment that best meets their needs.
