Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are at a small, rural K-8 school. About 60% of our students are socio-economically disadvantaged. We are working towards increasing our technology school wide. I am also looking to provide flexible seating options for my students. This would include floor cushions for comfortably sitting on the floor with clipboards, reading, and storage for curriculum materials for my students. Many studies have shown the students benefit from having more seating options in a comfortable learning environment.

With the addition of new bookshelves to increase our library, it gives the students a chance to explore new areas with their imagination.

Being in such a small rural town, books allow my students to go on an adventure without ever leaving. While getting lost in a book, my students will be able to read in comfort around the room on the new floor cushions.

Having new bookshelves will allow my students to see books easier and will protect books from bending or getting ruined. With new bookshelves, I am able to add to our classroom library with ease.

My Project

New bookshelves are desperately needed in my classroom to house our classroom library. The books are in plastic crates that bend and ruin covers. They need durable shelves so that the students have better access to them as well as protecting the books. This bookshelf will hold the remainder of our library and leave space for all new books.

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.

With these seats, students can work from clipboards or curl up and dive into a book.
