My Students

Our school provides services to students in grades PreK through 5 and specializes in Special Education. The teachers work hard to instill rigorous academics and prepare students for their futures. We strive to close the achievement gap, and we see our students working towards their goals every day!

For the 2018-2019 school year, I will be teaching 5th Grade Language Arts in an inclusion and general education classroom setting.

I will have about 50 students, who come from various cultural backgrounds and receive free or reduced priced lunch. More importantly, some of my students will require Special Education resources and services.

My Project

My students need a new and CLEAN rug where they can sit, learn and read through out the school day. So much of our learning takes place at our Promethean Board, and our students do not have a place where they can sit collectively, and participate in discussions. Also, throughout the day, many of my students look for alternative seating to complete assignments, as well as a cozy place to read. Many wish to be able to sprawl out across a rug with their lap desks or books.

It may seem trivial, but making our students comfortable for learning is one of my highest priorities, especially for those students with special needs.

Our school budget was cut more than half, and we have no idea what kind of supplies will be given to us for our students. Therefore, aside from the rug, I am also requesting some basic school supplies such as pencils, folders, Post-Its and chart paper. Having these supplies on hand will help take the burden off of parents who cannot afford to constantly buy supplies for their child. In addition, some of these materials, such as the chart paper, will be used to make anchor charts for the students to reference throughout the school year.

It's imperative that my students are comfortable in my classroom, and prepared with the supplies they need to help them learn. Every little bit counts, and is greatly appreciated!
