A Place to Listen and Learn

Help me give my students a storage unit to keep our listening center neat and organized, a new CD player, and a junction box so that several kiddos can listen to the stories at the same time.

My Students

I have been teaching kindergarten for 27 years in a great school, which is located in a low income community. Despite the often sad circumstances some of my students face, they are beating the odds every day. My students are bright, friendly, and extremely eager to learn new things. They love to explore and learn through play and hands-on experiences, which is the way it should be for a group of 5 and 6-year-olds.

With the current trend being all about test scores and less about letting kids be kids, I feel it is my duty to make learning as meaningful and engaging as I can for my students, while also making it fun!

My Project

As part of our amazing new play-based curriculum in 5K, we have eight different literacy centers. One of our favorites is the listening center. It is so fun to listen to a story with a particular comprehension strategy in mind and then write about it. For example, we may listen to “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” with character empathy in mind and then write about how the troll was feeling when the goats were crossing his bridge. It is such a fun way to learn these reading strategies.

Having the Lakeshore listening storage unit would make it so much easier for my students to keep things organized.

There is a place to put a junction box, a place to store headphones so that the cords won’t get tangled up, as well as, a place to store books and CDs. We are also in need of a new CD player as the one we are presently using is old and doesn’t always work and when it does, has started skipping a lot.

My students and I would be so excited to receive these new items for our listening center. Thank you so much for considering a donation to our project!
