My Students
Our school is located in a very diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn. My students are 5 years old. They are an enthusiastic and hard-working bunch. Many of my kindergarteners are growing up in low-income homes and do not have access to the learning materials at home needed to promote their academic growth. Regardless of the challenges they face, my students are highly motivated and love coming to school.
The spectrum of developmental levels in kindergarten is vast, and I am working hard to meet the needs of my students.
My Project
Our classroom rug is where we get together every morning to greet each other and welcome a new day of learning. Then too, our classroom rug is where we read, sing, listen, question, share ideas and build giant structures. Unfortunately, our classroom rug is old and worn out; it has been used by many 5-year-olds for a number of years (you can imagine its current state!). My students spend up to 6 hours in the classroom every day. They deserve an environment that is clean, organized, and calming.
My kindergarteners would like a comfortable rug with individual spaces for every kid (many of them need support maintaining personal space).
This rug would greatly improve our learning environment.
