This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading is a skill that will follow my students for the rest of their lives and my hope is that by creating this welcoming environment, they will advance in their reading. I am asking for chairs to allow my students to be able to move around the room to read. Reading is a skill that will follow my students for the rest of their lives and my hope is that by creating this welcoming environment, they will advance in their reading levels and gain confidence to read at home as well. I am asking for chairs to allow my students to be able to move in various spots around the room to read. These are chairs that will allow students to grab their favorite books, curl up with them.

We are a Title l school with a high English Language Learner population in a small town.

Most of them are not exposed to books outside of school. These are great kids who need a place to experience how much fun reading can be, without having to sit at their desk all the time.

My Project

My students will be able to use the chairs to get comfy and read around the room. This will be a great improvement from sitting on the floor or at their desk. Think about when you want to curl up and read a book. Don't you want to be comfortable? When you aren't, do you really want to sit for 20-30 minutes and try and concentrate?

This will help my students to foster their love of learning.

With the new reading environment, students will gain stamina in reading. It will be easier for them to read a whole book when they can get comfortable to do it.
