As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, with 760 students, I see my students face challenges both in and out of school. They lack basic materials, yet they are eager to learn. They want to do well and rise to the high standards that are set for them.
One significant challenge my students face is their challenge with literacy.
Our goal is to raise students' reading levels so they can flourish in a society that continues to demand strong literacy skills.
My Project
My students really love being able to read in alternative seating areas throughout the room. Many of them choose to lay on the floor and I would love to be able to provide a more comfortable area for them to do so! My students need a large rug and comfy floor seats that will provide an inviting area for the kids to discover a whole new world, that they may never have the opportunity to actually see, through reading!
Having this large, brightly colored rug and comfy floor seats will entice the students and help create a relaxing place where the can "Chill"with a good book!!
