Help me give my students a mindfulness corner! We need a comfy place to calm down or just take a moment to ourselves. We are requesting a bean bag chair, a shelf and mindfulness books.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are curious, energetic and always want to know more! They are engaged by hands-on, enrichment projects that push them to connect learning to the world around them. In their eyes, school is not just a place for academics, but a place of exploration and growth. I am inspired by my students every day!
Our school is located in New Orleans East, a community that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and has been slow to recover in comparison to the rest of the city.
Each child in my classroom brings special gifts and talents. We provide personalized learning through student led instruction, project based learning and self exploration to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky to be a part of their lives every day!
My Project
First graders are learning so much more than academics. In our class we learn about ourselves, each other and how to work as a team. This can be overwhelming and sometimes we just need a few minutes of tranquility.
This peace center will benefit our students by building emotional awareness, creating independence, and fostering a mindful environment.
Research indicates that incorporating peace areas within classrooms not only increase academic growth, but personal growth as well. We're asking for a comfortable chair, weighted blanket, stress toys, mindfulness books, coloring activities, emotion flashcards, a rug, and materials to put it all together.
