This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 20 first grade students who are eager to learn! This is my second year teaching in a first grade dual language classroom, which includes children who are English language learners as well as general education children.

Our school is located in the Lower East Side and about 60% of our children are currently living in homeless shelters.

This makes it very difficult to have access to many supplies necessary for our children to learn, because many times we are unable to get donations from our children's families.

My Project

We need a new bookshelf for our classroom library because the bookshelf we had fell apart. We had to remove the books from the shelf and throw it away. Now we don't have enough storage for our books and they are currently placed on top of a table for students to access.

The library is an essential part of my classroom as the students use the library on a daily basis for meetings and to pick new books to read through out the day.

Having a new bookshelf would restore organization to our classroom library and our book swapping routine.
