My Students

Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up." A. A. Milne

There are 33 students in my class.

The students in my classroom are eager learners who come from diverse backgrounds, including Hmong, Mexican-American, African-American, and Indian. Our school is located in a high poverty area, but our families believe in the power of a quality education.

My Project

The purpose of this project is to help our classroom be better organized for Reading Workshop. We are fortunate enough to have hundreds of books, but because of our small classroom they are not well organized. During Reading Workshop each student is given the opportunity to select books that interest them and are at their reading level. Giving my students easier access to our books will allow them to read a larger variety of books. This will help to increase the number of minutes students are reading each day and will increase their comprehension and vocabulary. My students need a bookcase and storage bins for a more organized place to store books.

Bookshelves and storage bins may not seem like a way to change students' lives, but being able to have more books available for checkout from our classroom library CAN change my student's lives.

Having access to more books means that my students will read more and this can dramatically change a student's life by increasing their comprehension and vocabulary and helping to prepare them for 5th grade.
