My Project
Moving into a new classroom is scary for both students and teachers. My students will be entering the new year as 6th graders and participating in their first school year where they will rotate from classroom to classroom. This is also the first year I will be teaching a rotational schedule. Our students are diligent workers but many lack the basic organizational skills that should have been developed and practiced during their key formative years that happened during COVID. They bring lots of their own personality to the classroom and this clean organized slate of furniture would provide the best starting place for them to let their own individuality shine.
With a place of their own they can feel confident in branching out and establishing their own identity as a student.
These organizational supplies will be used for student lockers as well as art material organization. They will help keep our classroom clean and healthy. Studies show that a clean and organized study space helps students mental health and academic progress. We have had the blessing of support for supplies for Chinese New Year, painting supplies for social emotional development and these cupboards and shelves will help us start the new year with organization and a clean slate. Students currently do not have a place to safely put their things as they transition to other classes for rotation and so we have had to turn their desks around so other students rotating in will not touch their things. This means that some students have to move their desks in order to get their own things when they are in our homeroom. These supplies will give them a safe and personal space for storing their homeroom materials. We want to start the Lunar New Year with a traditional refresh.
