This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My mom always said to me, "A place for everything and everything in its place." True at home and so very true in my kinder classroom. An organized classroom is the key to having the school year run smoothly. When students know where everything is and where everything goes, there is less chaos.
My students approach life with the enthusiasm and curiosity that all five-year-old children seem to have in abundance.
Despite living in a low socioeconomic area where their parents struggle to make ends meet, they are incredibly hopeful and looking forward to the future. My students' parents want the best education possible for them, but due to financial constraints, many cannot afford to have books, puzzles and other educational toys at home. It is up to me and the school to provide these wonderful, amazing, eager and bright kids with a wide variety of learning tools. We are a Title 1 school, which means that we do get funds to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantage, but not enough to provide every classroom with all the "extras" that they need. In fact due to all the budget cuts, we are running very low on essential supplies such as pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, and even multipurpose paper. Organization tools are deemed "non-essential"
My Project
I am requesting a 12 compartment organizer to organize our color construction paper. Right now, we have our color construction paper in the closet but it is an inconvenience for my students to go to the closet every time they need it. Especially for the little ones who can't really reach the first shelf. Throughout the day, I find our paper on the floor or all disorganized. Having this small 12-compartment organizer, would allow me to place it on a table top so that my students can better reach the construction paper. And, the paper will also be better organized because the students will be able to easily open up the trays, get what they need and close it up again. I am also asking for 6 desk trays. My students' desks don't have a book box. Last year I received, through DonorsChooose, 25 desk trays so that my students could place their books in them & we wouldn't have to waste instructional minutes passing out their books. Some of them broke so I need to replace them
Being organized is a very important skill that will help any student succeed not only in school but in life.
Being organized with our materials and our time, helps us to be more efficient and more capable to do our work/job. Please help me teach my students this very important life skill.
