My Students
I teach in Englewood, an impoverished area in the inner city of Chicago, Illinois. Englewood is plagued with violence, poverty, and broken families. Many students lack organizational skills and often struggle to maintain academic excellence due to lost assignments, lack of focus, and low student engagement. Our school plays an vital role in providing enriched opportunities to assist students in making sense of the world around them, teaching students positive habits that will positively influence their futures and more importantly helping students to become organized and responsible life long learners.
My Project
A large amount of a child’s time is spent sitting in a school classroom. This place is where they will learn the various skills deemed necessary and proper for them to achieve success in the global society. The classroom is where they will gain an understanding of their place in the world and the gifts that they have to offer it. It is where the student develops what they want their future to look like, as well as knowledge of the skills needed to reach that goal.
Overall, I understand the importance of classroom environment and how it plays a crucial role in keeping students engaged and allowing them to be successful within the classroom.
I want students to help lead the classroom. By better organizing my classroom supplies, projects, assignments, and task, I will began to create more of a student centered learning environment. My vision for this school year is to make student more accountable for their learning. Involved students are invested students. Students who are invested are usually more tuned into their educational responsibilities.
Throughout my research and professional development, I have discovered inventive ways to allow students to become more responsible for their academic success. However, I need help with this transformation. My classroom environment must reflect my efforts in making students more responsible for their learning. Your generous donations will improve my efforts in making students become more independent learners. These storage bins, filling carts, study carrels, hanging folders will allow me to organize my classroom, supplies, student assignments, and store student work portfolios and increase students' focus. But, more important, it helps me to teach focus and organizational habits which is an important life skill.
