We know that these are trying times right now and realize that everything is much more expensive now. We would like you to know that we are grateful and appreciate the extra snacks so that we can have something to fill our stomachs just in case we do not get a chance to eat breakfast or lunch. \r\nAs you kknow our population is located in a low-income neighborhood riddled with crime and violence all around us. It is also a food desert meaning the main grocery store maybe at least 10 to 20 blocks, and we all know that walking that far with bags to feed a family of 5 to 8 family members is almost impossible. The cost of groceries are extreamly high and our students are left with the bare minimum. They have a gas station in walking distance to the school but it is across the main street so it is a danger to small children running back and forth for just a bag of chips and candy. 80% of parents in this community are below or at poverty level, underemployed or unemployed. Most parents in this community have only a hugh school education, which makes it hard for them to find a job that pays above minimum wage. I try to do my part to bring a little joy and appreciation to give them a special treat for just be present.
