I teach kindergarten. I have 40 students in my class. Our school is in a low income area in Chicago. Most of the students receive free lunch and breakfast and many are homeless. A new carpet for our daily rug activities would be just what we need to implement our daily calendar activities as well as our Language Arts lessons.
Most students have trouble working in groups. Some of them must learn HOW to work as a group. In Kindergarten, each child having their own space is extremely important. It teaches them HOW to respect others, by keeping their hands and feet inside their OWN square. Without a classroom rug, this is a difficult concept for the students. The students are missing out on a key concept for their social growth.
A classroom rug with individual squares, is needed to teach this valuable social skill. It would be used to introduce and demonstrate the concepts and skills that the students must learn.
You would make it possible for these students to learn some valuable "Life Lessons", that they will keep for a lifetime. This will ensure that our children are getting the right start in their educational climb.
