Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have wonderful children that deal with a lot of trauma. We are a Title One, turn around school. All of my children receive both free breakfast and lunch. Many of my children have been separated from their family members and have seen trauma that I cannot even imagine.

I want to help build a safe area in my classroom where kids can sit in a comfy chair and use sensory toys to help them deal with their emotions and get to a safe place.

When kids come in, in the morning, they may be stressed so after they do their feelings check in, it is nice if they are feeling stressed or sad, they will have a place to go. This also works throughout the day if children are stressed or get upset when working in groups with their peers. Having this place and supplies gives them a wonderful opportunity to relax and deescalate.

This will all help with children feeling safe and learn to understand their feelings and how to successfully work through their feelings.
