A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words/Writing in the Classroom
The cost of a photo printer is $301, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
I teach Kindergarten at an elementary school in Los Angeles. I have a class of 20 students. I love to give my students experiences that they can draw on to inspire their work in the classroom. Throughout the year I take pictures of the students on field trips, working in our school garden, or doing things related to our current theme. The students love to see themselves in action.
The only problem is that it takes time to develop these pictures. Often, by the time I have developed the pictures, the moment has passed. It would be so wonderful for the students to be able to view these pictures the same or next day and be able to write about it while it is fresh in their mind. If they could see themselves touching a nurse shark at the aquarium's touch pool while they are writing, it would be so much more exciting and no doubt inspire greater effort.
I am hoping for a photo printer that would be kept in the classroom so that pictures from my digital camera could be developed on demand. I would use this for student writing. My students would have something concrete to look at (which is key in Kindergarten) to inspire their journal or other writing. I know that my students would be very excited to be able to see themselves in action.
