This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With the growing cuts in education, money can no longer be spent on the arts. With new digital formats, a "film" camera is too expensive to use. Since all of the industry leaders use digital format, a digital camera is the only way to go.

We are a title 1 school in Southern California.

The kids at my school are from every ethnic background and culture. Many of the students do not have access to technology at home. At a school with limited resources for technology, some elective classes have had to suffer; not to mention the students. I would like to say we are a unique school with a unique problem but we are not.

My Project

By providing my students a camera, not only will they will be able to just tell the community in words what school life and climate are like but able to show them. It is said, "A picture is worth a thousand words," and that is not an outdated sentiment. Capturing the moment in a picture can help to add to a story's richness and effect on a person. Photo Journalism is a growing field, and your donation would help to train, inspire, and educate students to see the world differently.

Along with the written word, pictures can tell the viewer a story, perspective, or simply kindle appreciation.

With digital cameras, the school newspaper can be more state of the art, up-to-date, and might get kids interested in "reading" the newspaper. The world is saying that print is dying; help one small campus say "No it's not!" Help bring print back.
