As a school counselor, I serve all kindergarten through second grade students. With a diverse socioeconomic population, the one thing that all of these students have in common is their love of technology.
Our school is a Title I school where most students live in a low socioeconomic situation.
Many students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
Walking down the halls of our school, you will see happy, smiling faces of precious children as well as a loving group of educators.
My Project
Art materials are part of what differentiate art therapy from verbal therapy. A variety of art materials are used in art therapy from simple to complex. Because children tell stories through their art, adding these materials would give children the opportunity to tell their stories without verbal language. Art expression also serves as a source of sublimation, aggression, and other negative behaviors, thoughts and feelings. Visual art and other forms of art give the counselor an opportunity to see what the child is conveying. For children who have experienced emotional trauma, loss, or abuse expressive release such as art is preferable to talking about what is difficult to articulate and uncomfortable to share. We need materials such as an easel, paper, paint and chalk.
