Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"With heart, and helping hands, a child can accomplish anything."
The students in my classroom are medically fragile special education students.
They are in wheel chairs or have significantly limited mobility. They need assistance with all of their activities of daily living, such as being changed, being feed, being lifted or placed in special adaptive equipment. They all have different medical needs as well. All of the students are nonverbal and have limited communication. The students communicate through facial expressions or expressing basic emotions, such as smiling or crying. My students have no way of communicating about their day, or their progress, to their parents.
My Project
The students will use the materials that I am requesting to help show people what they are capable of doing. Using a classroom iPad, pictures will be taken of each student working on their individual goals and objectives, as well as various classroom activities. These pictures will then be printed, using this color printer, and compiled into a portfolio. For students who are unable to communicate to their parents about their school day a picture can take the place of their words.
Donations to this project will improve the classroom by allowing for my students to communicate to their parents.
This communication will not be verbally, but visually through pictures. With this printer, the students will be able to show their parents what they are doing in school. This will allow for a stronger parent and teacher relationship because now the parent will be able to see what their child can do, instead of hearing about it at a meeting.
