My students live in a city where everyone thinks that their school is a horrible place to be. We want to create a newsletter with pictures to send out to the community to show them that good things are happening at our school and we're proud of it!
My school is a Title I school where over 70% of my students are living in poverty.
The school has a horrible reputation and many members of the community look at it as a rough place. However, they only hear the negative things that happen. They never hear the positive stories. Our community members need to have a way to find out the awesome things that are happening at our school!
My Project
The cameras and memory cards are essential to our classroom. This year, we will be creating a yearbook for students to take home and show their families as well as a monthly newsletter. In order to make both of these happen, we need cameras and memory cards to take pictures for these activities. Students will learn about team work as well as photography. Also, students will be using journalism skills to write columns and sections for both projects.
My students are tired of hearing about how awful their school is.
They are finally realizing that it is not a horrible place. Therefore, they want the world to know! In order to do that, we are making the yearbook and newsletter to spread the good word about our school. These students want to have pride in their school and share it with the community. Also, by giving the community a more positive view of the school, we can garner more support and volunteers.
