Science should be fun and open young minds to a world of possibilities. For many of our students however, science is the scariest of all disciplines. My proposal will allow me to create an inviting classroom environment where students can look all around at different posters and charts; and find easy-to-read and interesting science facts and images.
Our small school is located in one of our nation’s poorest congressional districts. The student population represents a diverse multicultural urban setting. At least 40% of our students are classified as Special Needs, and/or English Language Learners. The vast majority qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch.
Since my students are mostly visual learners, posters and charts will serve as learning enrichment tools. They will show students a more interesting side of science and hopefully be thought-provoking and encourage further investigation. As the images will be permanently posted, they will also serve as reminders and reinforcement of the lessons taught throughout the school year.
With your help, science can be made accessible to those who fear it most. Help me brighten-up an otherwise sterile science classroom.
