Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students range from Pre-K through 5th grade and they all have Individualized Education Programs. The majority of my students live in lower income housing, projects, or shelters in the south Bronx, NY. These students are energetic, charming, and sweet! Many of them need additional assistance with handwriting and typing skills. Unfortunately a functional positioning can be challenging when not having the right supports!
Through these resources my students engagement and learning will improve!
My youngest students are 3 years old and my oldest students are 10 years old. Unfortunately, we do not have working areas that can be customized to the high of each student. Often I see students either struggling to reach out to the working area (desk/table) or dangling their feet when the working area is too high, which is no optimal for learning. The standing desk will allow me to customize it to the high of each student and promote a better positioning when they are practicing writing and typing skills. The crayon organizers will assist in keeping items at easy reach. Since the caddy has individual trays, they can be removed and allow each student to have their set of supplies when engaged in table-top activities. The eyeglass straps and anti-slip ear grip will assist in promoting consistent eyeglass wear. Often I notice my students struggle to keep their eyeglasses positioned correctly and in place, resulting in decreased eyeglasses wear or distractions by having to reposition them. All of these items will be used to support my students and promote function!
