A Pawsitivity Year

My Students

First Grade students are awesome! They are full of wonder and curiosity and just love to learn. My students come from a very close-knit, small community, in a rural town of upstate New York. Our school serves students in grades Pre-K through 6th grade. Parents, students, and teachers share a great sense of family in our school because everyone loves it. Not only do my students learn through academics but they also learn through playing and cooperating. I love providing a fun learning environment for my first grade students to keep them excited about school.

My Project

Our theme is "Lets be Pawsome!" We will use the foam frames to decorate, so that it is ready for when the students earn their actual stuffed dog.

This year, we will be learning about pets and how to take care of them and along with this my students will have the opportunity to earn a pet dog, as well as other items to give to their dog.

Students will be able to earn a dog, plush donut, collar or key chain for their dog. Once the students have earned items for their dog they will write about why their dog needs those items. The rest of the class will decide if the student made a good choice on how to care for their pet dog. This is covered in our literacy and science units this year as a cross curricular activity. Students can also earn a dog note pad and pencil to help keep daily notes about how they have taken care of their dog by describing what exercise they did and how often they fed their dog.
