My students need books that will pique their interests. I have a classroom library; however, I am constantly looking for new reading material that my students can relate to.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my students are ninth graders this year. As new students to the high school environment, they are eager to explore every avenue our high school has for them to get the most out of their experience throughout the next four years. The diverse community in which our school is a part of helps to nurture students' understanding of multiple cultures. Many of my students come from low-income households; however, they do not allow their financial status to define them. Students are eager to get the most out of their education.
The students in my classroom are active learners.
They come ready, and willing to learn. Our classroom environment is welcoming, and mindful of how we all wish to be treated by staff and other students who venture into our room.
My Project
Global Citizenship is this school year's theme for the Academy of Law and Public Service umbrella under which I teach. As an ELA teacher, I believe exposing my students to as much multicultural literature as possible is a great way to build global citizenship.
By donating to this project, you will assist in my goal of introducing literary works from authors my students would normally not have the opportunity to read.
I am requesting the novel by Sherman Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, it is an excellent introduction into multicultural literature. As a class, we can explore this text together through small and large group discussions, project-based group work, and literature circles.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
