My students need 30 sets of oil pastels to create projects based on color and color theory.

My Students
"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for."
Georgia O'Keeffe.
What a wonderful way to get students to express themselves -- through the use of color!
My students consist of 10th, 11th and 12th graders.
They are a lively, curious bunch, and they are anxious to begin working with supplies that go beyond pencils and markers.
Our school is like a small fish in a huge pond (or ocean!). We are a small school housed on the third floor of a VERY large New York inner-city high school. We have few resources. We make the most of what we have.
My Project
I have taught the students about painterly drawings made with oil pastels. They have seen examples from last year and they are excited to create their own. Unfortunately, the pastels we have left are in small, broken pieces and many colors are missing or used up.
The activity I have in mind are portraits and landscapes that explore color theory and expression through color. It is an important lesson to learn before diving into painting.
Donations of brand new oil pastels will give the students several opportunities to work with color and color theory.
It will enhance their knowledge and make their written notes 'come alive' with color. It will serve as the foundation for future projects using color, upon which other techniques will be built. Without the oil pastels, I would have to skip this crucial step.
